Holy Rollers (2010)


Holy Rollers inspired by actual events in the late nineties when Hasidic Jews were recruited as mules to smuggle ecstasy from Europe to the United States. Sam Gold (Jesse Eisenberg), a young Hasid from an Orthodox Brooklyn community are reluctant to follow the path his family had chosen for him, waiting to be delayed marriage and learn to become a rabbi. An attractive neighbor, Joseph Zimmerman (Justin Bartha), Sam senses resistance and propositions her for transport 'cure' for Jackie (Danny A. Abeckaser), an Israeli dealer, and his girlfriend, Rachel (Ari Graynor). Sam quickly showed his business expertise to the boss, who immediately took Sam under their wings. Now exposed to the world interesting and outs of Manhattan and Amsterdam nightlife, Sam began to spiral deeper into a lifestyle that harmed them, experimented with ecstasy and then falls for Rachel. As business grew, Sam's double life began to tear apart families and communities became suspicious of illegal activity. Sam slowly come to realize the truth behind the façade of easy money and party. Trapped between life as a smuggler and a way back to God, Sam went on to run, forced to make a fatal decision that could bring the whole operation collapsed.
